1. Who we are
The Atmospheric Impact Initiative (“Aii,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates atmosphericimpact.org (the “Site”). This policy describes the information we collect through the Site, how we use it, and the choices available to you.
2. What the Site does
The Site provides information about Aii and makes documents available for download. You do not need an account to use the Site, and we do not ask you to register to view or download materials.
3. Information we collect
Information you send us by email. Email links on the Site (for example, a “Contact us” link) open a new message in your own email application. Clicking the link does not transmit any information through the Site. If you choose to send us an email, we receive what you include — your email address, your name if you provide it, and the contents of your message — and it is stored in our email system.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider, WordPress.com (Automattic), automatically records limited technical information about each visit in server logs: IP address, browser and device type, the pages requested, the documents downloaded, the referring page, and the date and time of the request. We use this information to operate and secure the Site.
Aggregate analytics. We measure Site traffic using a cookieless analytics service, Fathom Analytics. It reports aggregate statistics — such as total visits, page views, document download counts, and country-level location — and does not use cookies, build individual profiles, or track you across other websites. Our hosting platform also provides built-in aggregate visitor statistics as part of operating the Site. The Site sets only a small number of strictly necessary cookies. 4. How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- respond to inquiries you send us by email;
- operate, maintain, and secure the Site, including detecting and preventing abuse;
- understand aggregate Site usage, such as which documents are downloaded most; and
- comply with applicable law.
We do not sell personal information, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
5. Legal bases for processing (EU and UK visitors)
Where the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation applies, we process personal information on the following bases: our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Site, measuring aggregate usage, and responding to inquiries you initiate; your consent, where we ask for it; and compliance with legal obligations.
6. How we share information
We share information only with service providers that support the Site (e.g., our hosting provider, email provider, and analytics provider) processing information on our instructions and public authorities or other parties where disclosure is required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, or the integrity of the Site. If Aii’s activities are transferred to a successor organization, information collected through the Site may be transferred with them.
7. International transfers
The Site is operated from the United States, and information collected through it is processed in the United States. If you visit from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to a jurisdiction whose data protection laws may differ from those of your home jurisdiction. Where required for transfer from the EU or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards, including our service providers’ certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.
8. Retention
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy. Server logs are retained by our hosting provider for approximately 30 days. Aggregate analytics statistics, which contain no personal information, are retained for the life of our analytics subscription. Email correspondence is retained in accordance with our internal records practices.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information. If you are in the EU or UK, these include the rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to our processing of your information, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Residents of certain US states may have similar rights under state privacy laws. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 13.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information described in this policy. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Third-party sites
The Site may link to websites we do not operate. This policy does not apply to those sites, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on the Site with a revised effective date.
